Sadly, my pineapple tomatoes have not been doing well the past couple of weeks and I had to pull them up this weekend.
My sungold cherry tomatoes have had another burst of energy, and a whole new set has ripened. I froze another 2 bags for use in soups this winter.
We've had a very rainy couple of weeks, which has been great for the garden except that it has encouraged bug breeding. Suddenly the garden is full of them! I've never seen squash bugs leave the squash patch, but this week I found one eating a tomato! They've also wreaked havoc on the Swiss Chard, but luckily I've already filled my freezer with enough to last thru the winter. I did pick a nice bunch for fresh eating, and threw out about twice as much that was too damaged to bother with.
I also harvested 2 more zucchini. I now have quite a bit laying on the counter, as I haven't had a chance to do much with them in the last couple of weeks. Good thing zucchini lasts a while!
The bug population has been very high in my garden this year, too. Squash bugs, stink bugs and leaf rollers are prolific, unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteYour peppers are beautiful! All we have are greens ones this year (my others failed), which taste good, but don't look as pretty :-/ Great harvests!
ReplyDeleteYour harvest looks beautiful! Too bad about those bugs; I have been inundated with squash bugs too. They are everywhere.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear the bugs are "blossoming" with the rain. It's always one thing or another isnt it?!
ReplyDeleteThose tomatoes look great. We are having a late tomato season which is always dangerous as the odds go up that the fall cold rains will arrive before all the green fruit matures and ripens. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Sorry about your pineapple tomatoes. I do know the feeling though. I can't even get my seedlings growing because of all the rain. :-(
ReplyDeletevery lovely peppers and tomatoes. Interesting zucchini with stripes - what variety is it?
ReplyDeleteIt's Strata d'Italia, an Italian heirloom. I really love them!
DeleteSounds like a great harvest. I'm jealous of your zucchini, ours has been struggling this year. We've only had a few all year because of a wilt that really set the plant back. It seems to be recovering now so we should have more soon!!
ReplyDeleteGreat harvest this week. I had what I thought were squash bugs in the toms but turned out they were leaf footed bugs (which meant I had both types). Grrr...
ReplyDeletelovely tomatoes and peppers. frankly I'm tired of summer squash. what are you going to do with yours?
ReplyDeleteThe initial excitement has definitely worn off. I did find a really easy recipe to use as a side dish - zucchini rounds topped with mozzarella. I might be making more of that.
DeleteYou've done better with peppers just in this harvest than I ever had. I have trouble just getting the darn things to germinate, let alone harvest any decent sized red ones. Tomatoes look good too.
ReplyDeleteWe've had plenty of rain here lately too - actually perhaps a bit too much. As for the zucchini, try grating it and freezing it for use in winter.
